Designer for a Day

If you're not afraid of a little DIY or have your own contractor hired but need help making design choices, this is the package for you. Included in this service is a curated design for you or your contractor to follow and implement. This package includes a shopping list with links to purchase the items to implement into the new design. It is limited to just one room or space - additional rooms or spaces can be added by purchasing a 2nd design day at a discounted rate.

We'll do our best to accomplish as much as possible during your Design Day session. Our focus will also center on selecting high-quality pieces to give you a cohesive and curated look.

This one-time, single-day service gives you the benefit of using an interior designer for a specific project, such as interior decorating for a specific room. “Designer for a Day” helps interior design services become attainable and affordable. Services can all be provided virtually. This means we can work with you no matter where you live! Hiring an interior designer helps avoid costly mistakes and save money long term for your renovation project.

Our Process

While this is a limited service, thoughtful consideration is given to each decision and selection to ensure it fits your overall aesthetic, taste, personality, and the way you live. The more information you provide ahead of time, the more we can hone in on your style to select the perfect items for your space.

  • Phase Four: Design Support
    Your 1 week of support includes a thirty-minute follow-up call OR one week of email support to ask questions about your design, or request clarification on items presented in the design. We will help you purchase items through Heart and Hammer, and provide a Heart and Hammer Resources Guide.
  • Phase Two: Your Design Day
    During this phase, we will have a 1-2 hour video conference to discuss the project, design challenges, goals, and your design style. You will be provided a moodboard, design plan, shared Pinterest board etc, design plan, color palette, material selections with links to purchase, and more. We will send tips prior to your session to make sure you feel completely prepared!
  • Phase Three: Your Design Plan
    Once your design plan is ready, you'll be able to get started! We will provide a 1 hour support call to review your plan and deliverables. You'll receive your digital design plan detailing the recommended furniture and accessories, a virtual presentation of your design, suggestions and tips, samples and swatches, a resource guide, a bedding essentials guide, and 1 week of email support while you're implementing your design.
  • Phase One: Your Design Style
    During this phase, we will conduct a Discovery Call, and review your completed Design Questionnaire. We will look at some inspiration images you've provided and talk about what you like and don't like. You will be required to take and send measurements and photos of your space to our team. We will send you a Measuring and Photography Guide to help you with this process.
  • How much does a consultation cost and what does it include?
    We are happy to have an initial, brief discovery call at no charge to see if we are a good fit for your project. Once we come to a mutual agreement to proceed with project scoping, we will schedule a full design consultation. This includes a site visit (in person or virtually) and preparation of a detailed project scope; room by room. The cost of the design consultation depends upon complexity of the project, time spent on site and distance to travel. We will provide you with a design consultation cost following the discovery call once we understand the scope it will entail.
  • What is included in virtual design projects? (Anywhere in the continental U.S.)
    Virtual design packages include: Preliminary design Detailed project estimate & schedule Design review Final design Design delivery (detailed drawings) Finish / furnishing orders Construction coordination/Installation Documents (if you would like us to coordinate with local contractors on your behalf)
  • What will my project cost?
    Each project is unique. Costs will depend upon the complexity of the design, the scope of the work and the materials chosen. We will provide a detailed estimate for your customized design services package following the design consultation, at which point we will agree on the scope of work for your project. Once the design services are agreed upon, the design phase will begin starting with preliminary designs. A detailed project estimate and timeline will be provided following the preliminary designs.
  • What is included in design-build projects? (Maine & New Hampshire only)

  • Do you provide a warranty on materials purchased from Heart and Hammer?
    We pass on the manufacturer’s warranty for all the materials we purchase for our clients. Some of these are lifetime warranties.
  • Step One: Initial Consultation and Discovery
    We want to make sure we are a good fit for your project. We will ask a series of questions and get to know you and your family to see if we are the best company to fulfill your wants and needs.
  • Step Two: Project Estimate
    Once we have all the details, we will get together your estimate, timeline, and anything else to scope out your project.
  • Step Three: Design & Delivery
    Once your design-build is complete, we will finish up with the most homey touches to welcome you back into your space. All projects include the following design components: 2D black & white floor plan and elevations. 3D color rendered views with 1 top view and views of each wall in your space. A project specification list including products, appliances, furniture and accessories. A mood board to showcase colors, textures and finishes. Three video calls or in-person meetings with your designer (Initial consultation & discovery, initial review & final review)
What to know before purchasing the package...
  • The package costs a one-time fee of $600 and must be paid in full in advance to reserve booking.

  • This service is limited to just one room or space—additional rooms or spaces can be added by purchasing a 2nd design day for $500 each.

  • Within 1 week of inquiry, we will reach out to schedule your discovery call. Your timeline start date will be updated based on current project load and capacity. On average, the entire process takes 4-6 weeks from start to finish.

  • We work with all different types of budgets. Our clients typically have furnishing budgets between $8,000 and $20,000. If your budget is lower, we may provide you with some ideas on what to prioritize and help you plan your project in phases.

Once you purchase your Designer for a Day package, you will receive an email with next steps—including schedule your discovery call, and project questionnaire.

DISCOVERY & DESIGN

During the discovery phase, we will get a sense of your style and what you hope for in your space. Over the next 2-4 weeks, we will present our initial concepts, receive feedback, and revise.

IMPLEMENTATION

Within 5 days of receiving your design plan, we will follow up to review, answer questions, and provide support during implementation for one week.
